North Carolina drivers lost a driver’s privacy protection lawsuit for failing to provide personal injury attorneys that requested police reports on accidents for the purpose of advertising to clients who requested “motor car records,” the Fourth Circuit declared.

The DPPA creates civil liability for anyone who acquires personal data directly from a vehicle’s record. This is not the case for those who get information that came from a similar record according to according to the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit said.
