Update: On September 2 2022 New York State Police arrested Maleek U. Phillips, age 37, of Albany, NY following an assault against a vehicle on Interstate 87 within Newburgh. Newburgh. Phillips was arrested on charges of Attempted Murder 2nd, First Assault and 2nd assault and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd as well as Endangering the Welfare of the welfare of a Child. Phillips was brought before the judge the Justice Anika Mohammed at the City of Newburgh Court. He was detained in Orange County Jail. He was charged this morning, on the 2nd of September 2022, in an Grand Jury on the same allegations.

Newburgh, NY – On the 26th of August 2022 at around 7:15 p.m., State Police were called to investigate an attack that took place at the time of a bus that was traveling southbound along I-87 located in Newburgh, NY. Newburgh.
The commercial bus was on its way between Albany up to New York City, with around 30 people on the bus after a fight broke out among two men. The bus stopped on the shoulder around mile 60.1 and Troopers reacted with assistance from the Newburgh Town Newburgh Police.
Two males were injured in the course of the fight. One of whom is the suspect, currently in police custody the moment. The victim was treated at the spot with non-life-threatening injuries.
The lanes were open throughout the incident , and there’s no effect on Thruway travel in the area as of now. The investigation is still ongoing, and further details will be announced once it is made accessible.
